To enable development in the sport of Track and Field through the promotion of coaching excellence, healthy lifestyles, positive attitudes, inclusiveness and community involvement.
Our aim is to guarantee all members access to a complete range of participation, training and competition opportunities and to ensure equity in all aspects of Athletics, including the provision of rewards and incentives, coaching, officiating and administration. Seven equity areas are identified which include gender, disabilities, older adults, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, non-English speakers, employment status and isolated communities.
Senior Athletics is governed by Athletics Australia. Each State and Territory are Member Associations of Athletics Australia with our State body being Queensland Athletics.
The Senior Athletics’ season starts in October each year and your age group is determined by your age as at 31st December of the year that the season finishes, minimum age is 12 years as at that date.
Senior Athletics operates a little differently to Little Athletics. You can compete in Shield Meets usually held in Brisbane or other competitions that may be held on the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast.
In addition to the usual in stadium events there are also “Out of Stadia” events which include Marathon and Roadwalking over distances of 3km, 5km, 10km, 20km and 50km.
Most competitions are set up by Queensland Athletics who sanctions each meet as either Gold Label, Silver Label or Bronze Label.
