Chris Lewis

Chris Lewis has been the Head Coach of Gold Coast Athletics  and Gold Coast Little Athletics for many years. Consequently he has played a major part in the development of many successful athletes.

He first became involved in coaching athletics when his daughters were members of the Club. His daughter Amelia won many State medals in the sprint hurdles, 400m and 800m. She represented Queensland at ALAC winning Bronze in the sprint hurdles and also represented Queensland at Schools Nationals. His daughter Jayne enjoyed discus winning silver at Schools Nationals and then went on to become a very accomplished tennis player winning many local and regional tournaments.

Over the years, Chris has continually undertaken professional development and is a firm believer in Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD ). He has coached and been involved in the development of Commonwealth Games and World Juniors representatives, as well as two Stawell Gift winners. He has coached many State Team representatives and athletes who have won State and National medals and who have also broken State and National records.

Chris was also the head sprint coach at Somerset College from 2012 – 2018 and played a major part in the development of their Athletics program and them winning the APS Track and Field Carnival for the first time and then again two years running.

He currently develops both track and S&C programs which work hand in glove for a small group of our Open athletes who have already qualified for the National Championships. He also coaches some of our LAQ members.
