Steve Langley has been involved with Gold Coast Athletics since 1997, having two daughters go through Little Athletics from under 6 & under 7s through to Under 15s and briefly into seniors.
Steve started coaching in 2002 and with daughter Tayla becoming known as a race walker, soon became an advocate for the discipline, learning as much as possible from Tayla’s coach and started to specialize in walks, coaching a small squad from 10 years old up.
Steve has attained Athletics Australia Level 2 Advanced Coach in Race Walking as well as Long/Middle Distance and has been known to enjoy a long run or walk himself running several marathons, City 2 Surf, Gold Coast’s 96k Kokoda Challenge as well the Kokoda Track in New Guinea and aims to climb Kilimanjaro before he is too old.
Steve has coached several State and Australian medalists, but his highest coaching achievement is being a 3-time Australian Team Coach for the Oceania team in Townsville, World University Games Team in Naples and the Olympic Team in Tokyo while coaching Australian race walker Katie Hayward to those events as well as World Juniors, World Race Walking Teams and World Championships, winning double Gold at World Uni’s and 5th at World Juniors.
